Elm branches and damaged elm trees are the perfect breeding ground for Dutch Elm disease.
And just as Edmonton has discovered its tenth case of the disease in Calder, massive repeat storms have snapped elms in two, and their branches and boughs are piled on boulevards. Perfect for spread.
If it's not contained now, it may not be possible to contain it - ever.
