We really wanna kick the s--- out of this thing and show the government we're serious.

Edmonton only has one source of water: the North Saskatchewan River.

If something happens to it, that's the ball game. No extra innings.

Danielle Smith wants to sell us down the river for coal.

At the headwaters

One of the next two projects on the docket that are coming through the approval process, one of them is called the Blackstone project, and it's at the headwaters of the North Saskatchewan. There are contaminants that almost always come with coal mining. One of them, the main one people have heard about, is selenium, but there's arsenic, there's a bunch of them.

Coal leases in the Eastern Slopes, and the two mines currently moving forward. Map: CPAWS.

And once they get into our groundwater and surface water, cleanup will be billions, if it's even possible.

There's little evidence to support that contaminated watersheds can even be restored at this scale.

On the side of the cowboys

I actually frankly don't like it when celebrities talk about s--- they don't know about either, but I wanted to make sure I was on the right side of it.

But the deal is: on one side of this issue, you've got a billionaire coal magnate from Australia. On the other side of the issue, you've got ranchers like the Langes and the Schlossers and the Blades west of Nanton, and you got people like me, who, I play music for a living. I have nothing to gain from this, neither do the cattle people. The only thing we have to gain from this is clean water.

Foreign coal companies making a bunch of money versus us keeping our water clean and our ranch land intact, I'm a hundred percent on the side of the cowboys on that one.

This one matters

I know, there have been a lot of petitions asking for your signature.

But this one? It matters. It's winnable.

The government has confirmed if it hits 180,000 signatures, it's going to a province-wide referendum in October.

Get out there, sign, and bring 10 people along.

If you, and I mean specifically you, don't overcome your apathy and get out there and sign, expect Danielle Smith to bring you coal this Christmas.

And every Christmas after that.

Take it away, Corb.

Well this is my prairie, and this is my home
And I'll make my stand here, and I'll die alone
Well they can drill and they can mine o'er my moldering bones
'Cause this is my prairie, and this is my home
