Mission accomplished.
We've now got a new council and, honestly, it exceeds expectations.
After 30% of eligible voters cast their ballots, Andrew Knack will be the new mayor of Edmonton, taking it with just shy of 40% of the vote.

Andrew Knack | 78,519 | 37.98% |
Tim Cartmell | 61,668 | 29.83% |
Official results.
Edmontonians looked at what Tim Cartmell and Danielle Smith had on offer with their party experiment and soundly rejected it.
Timbits were tossed out like day-olds in several wards, with Erin Rutherford, Keren Tang, Aaron Paquette, Anne Stevenson, Michael Janz, and Jo-Anne Wright all taking handy victories.
Despite the UCP advertiser Edmonton Forward taking out attack ads on her, Ashley Salvador also won an easy victory with nearly half of all the votes, including in Delton, the community along the 132 Ave bike lane, the residents of which Minister Devin “MAGA Hat” Dreeshen says staunchly oppose the direction of Edmonton city council.
Edmonton Forward on Facebook, Nov. 15, 2024.
I guess not too staunchly.
On a positive note, upcoming city council meetings will also move much more smoothly and quickly, with a higher average competence, because Jennifer Rice will not be returning. Jon Morgan has won her seat in Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi.
Now, even though Tim lost, a few of his bits did take a victory.
Karen Principe was re-elected in tastawiyiniwak, unsurprisingly, and Reed Clarke took Nakota Isga.
And in pihêsiwin, the ward formerly represented by Tim, Michael Elliott won.
I've highlighted some of the issues with Elliott in a past video, but it's worth reiterating. This guy made it his job for years to viciously attack, discredit, and undermine all the people he's about to call colleagues.
If he doesn't offer up a mea culpa and do a full 180 on his style of interaction with council, he's gonna have a real bad term.
Darrell Friesen, a Timbit, did win in sipiwiyiniwak over second-place Thu Parmar by six votes. Just six.
sipiwiyiniwak | Election night | After the recount |
|---|---|---|
Darrell Friesen | 6,060 | 6,040 |
Thu Parmar | 6,054 | 6,667 |
A recount has already been issued by the returning officer, so we'll see if that holds.
All told, after spending well north of $1 million, the Better Edmonton team won three of 13 seats, with a potential fourth pending the result of a recount.
Despite this narrative being pushed by our local media and Facebook groups, this election did not appear to be a “change” election. In fact, it seems broadly the population approved of the direction the city is moving, and wants some further refinement, but to continue in that direction.
Oh, also, the flat-earther? She got flattened. Congrats, Holly.
EPSB Ward C | Votes | % |
|---|---|---|
Holly Nichol | 12,800 | 83.99% |
Amyjoy Clow | 2,440 | 16.01% |
